Dear Reader,
Have you ever met someone and felt like you would have to spend years understanding what they’re saying?
Not because they are saying complicated things but they are talking from experience, that you do not have (yet).
During my most trying and testing times, the words from some seniors who would be 10-15 years more experienced in life than me, would echo in my ears. It’s like I am finally understanding why they had to make the choices they made.
Like the one time P mentioned that after cremating his father’s corpse, he went straight to enquire his team about the day’s sales. Their choices seemed too stoic and insensitive to me, once. I’d wonder what kind of a life we live, if we are not allowed any time to grieve. But that’s what life does - it hardens you, if you allow it to.
When you’re 25, and a 40 year old tells you that life doesn’t work that way, you tend to defy them, disagree with them, and even want to prove that your life would be different. But sometimes life works exactly the way they said it would.
It’s because there are some invisible and uncontrollable forces that guide life. Some of the events these forces bring are inevitable - like accidents, illnesses, deaths. These things make you feel helpless.
The good news is that the same forces also bring in divine luck and fortune that are inevitable too - like meeting someone, actualizing a dream, working on something destined, things magically working out for you, walking on your soul path and purpose. And, thus, hope prevails!
Such is the thing about life - you can’t expect it to turn out as per your plans. Well, not always. It finds a way to surprise us, if not shock us.
I believe if two people are meant to cross paths, they would, eventually, anyhow. And I am not saying this romantically. I am saying this in the way you meet someone and they say something and you feel like you’re guided for life.
And then, sometimes, you become a guide for others too. Like I met A in one of my solo trips, and after spending some fun time traveling together, we sat over a cup of coffee and she shared a deep dark secret and cried. That one hour of crying for her was a way to heal, and my presence, was the medium.
I hope you have met such mediums in your life. I have met a few, and at the exact time I needed them. And the fond memory of a brief encounter, with inspiring words, would help me sail through in life.
In case, you have never encountered a person whose words made you feel a bit more wiser, a bit more hopeful, I pray you find solace in the words of writers and poets, in books and blogs.
I hope it’s okay for you guys if not all my letters contain major breakthroughs, if some letters are just simple plain existence and words… because sometimes that is life.
Speaking of breakthroughs, remember, that some major transformation happens inside your comfort zone, at your home. You don’t always have to shift cities, travel across the world, or change houses, to gain major spiritual, emotional or intellectual growth in life. Life is hard enough; you don’t have to make it harder.
Just like the protagonist in The Alchemist, sometimes you will find your truth at home. When in doubt, go home. That’s where you may find your treasure, your healing.
With love,
Sanhita
