Let There Be Grace!
If information would have healed, we would all be out there feeling lighter and happier. But unfortunately, there's a missing link between healing and knowing
Dear Reader,
I understand that by now you have received a lot of information and awareness about the healing process, about subconscious beliefs that block your receiving, about traumas from childhood or the past or ancestors and lifetimes.
I understand that you may have read my previous letters that gave you a glimpse of real-life examples of how traumas affect us, limit us, and how doing the inner work pulls you out of that swamp.
And I understand, this may mean you have self-reflected a lot. I believe that every passing day you are becoming more aware of your internal environment and your past circumstances. And more than that, I believe you now recognize a life that’s possible for you, beyond what you have experienced so far.
However, I urge you to NOT be hard on yourself, on your parents, on your ex-relationships, on your ex-friends, and on the past version you once held.
Your trauma was never your choice. Not being aware of your internal dialogues was not your choice. Not distinguishing your self-limiting beliefs from your helpful beliefs was not your choice.
But, as cliche as it may sound, healing is your choice!
And I would like to remind you all in this journey of self-healing, to NOT to be hard on your present self too.
Intellectualization of the source of your traumas, beliefs and inner dialogues is only the first step.
Intellectualization often does not offer the profound emotion of healing.
Knowledge can only take us so far.
What more is required is something unconventional, something probably no one has taught us before in this world where we are constantly busy working, surviving, making ends meet, putting efforts, going out to socialize, and what not.
There’s a word in Arabic I have often loved - इत्मीनान (calmness, satisfaction, respite) - and another - फ़ुर्सत (relief, freedom) - and often, ठहराव (stay).
The English meanings may not do any justice to these words and what they really mean. But I am more interested in the feelings these words evoke in me.
And often, healing is about feeling!
A profound healing experience will make your nervous system feel calm. No matter how harsh a trauma you would be processing, a healing experience will make you relax, and smile, and feel relieved and feel lighter.
There may be tears… but they will be gentle and gracious. The kind that tells you something inside you is now released back into the Universe.
Healing often feels like reading a beautiful poem or listening to a heart-warming song. Something inside you feels understood. A strange feeling of acceptance comes into your Universe and decides to reside in you.
And you know, you will probably never have to worry about this again.
Healing, unlike what people around you may tell you, does not involve blame. Blaming is probably the initial stages of it where you acknowledge the source and are willing to love yourself enough to express your anger.
True healing will NOT leave you stranded in an island of emotions, trying to fend for yourself, and finding your place in the world.
Healing will make you feel satisfied!
And when you are satisfied, you know yourself, you see the Universe and its capabilities, you are in allowance of everyone else around you… because above all, you are in allowance of yourself.
You are reminded that you were born perfect and whole, that you being yourself is enough!
And, my dear readers, I know how difficult it is to be compassionate to yourself when you are in the journey of self-healing, especially when you haven’t received words of compassion from someone else.
You do not have to do it all alone. You do not have to!
Last weekend when I coached a room full of people, each with different issues around job promotions, relationships, business, and therapy, I reminded them of something which I am here to tell you - You may have all the knowledge of trauma, healing and therapy, and spirituality in the world. But sometimes, it’s important to sit with a professional and talk. You would find new perspectives. You would find a safe space to feel your feelings. You would find the understanding you seek from others.
And most of all, you would find what true healing offers - satisfaction!
I hope you find that healer, therapist, coach, mentor, medium, guide for yourself.
With love,
Sanhita
